After their overwhelming success, their huge presence in merchandise and games such as pokken, and going to the trouble to make and install 1-2 life sized mega statues in every pokemon center in Japan, they're now being retconned out.

Of course they're going to be in the game.

Magearna's Japanese page is named Megas in the source code then Mythicals as it should be. What do you think?

Megas are back, there's just no new ones.

We may get few or no new ones but megas will still be present. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if, going forward, new megas are only introduced as marketing tools for remakes.

No because Megas was just a gen 6 gimmick...
