Is Shift or Set the real way to play?

I used to be deterred from set for the same reason as this. It makes it harder to always swap to a weak mon I'm training and then immediately swap out. But, with experience trying the leap to set, I can say that it does make the game more fun still. Losing out on that is still manageable, and it can force you to try and battle with the weaker pokemon when it's not too underleveled, which is fun.

I always play on set, the games are already pretty easy but on shift its a complete joke. Set also makes more sense in a realistic setting. Like, why should the protag have this magical power to know with 100% certainty which pokemon his opponent will throw out next? It makes the games feel even less legitimate imo

I normally say Set, but I recently played HG/SS and had to put it to Shift because I had to manage EXP distribution much more carefully than I do in other games.

The game is easy as shit either way so both. It doesn't make it more difficult most of the time, it just adds the tedium of taking another turn.

Shift is for absolute casuals who barely understand type effectiveness. For someone who knows type effectiveness, playing with Shift mode is pretty much a free win.

There are many routes to pokemon mastery. Choose the one that appeals to you and damn public opinion.

My way of pokemon mastery is by which I wait for someone to take my stance the wrong way, upon which I get a rare candy and +1 to all of my IVs.
