I think you're kind of playing it at the wrong time if you're an adult. the thing that I think keeps pokemon interesting at our age is the community, and the theories and muh lore that comes from the discussion, because honestly they are games aimed at a younger audience and aren't as fleshed out as shit that typically interests us is. even oras, which in hindsight wasn't brilliant, was fun as fuck playing it along with vp and coming through the delta episode and random shit together.
I think that if you play sun or moon when it comes out and get in on this kind of stuff when there's still a bit of a buzz, you'll have a better lasting impression of the games, regardless if they're actually that great or not.

Gen 5 handled everything much differently and put more "effort" in

the only really boring part to me was the whole fucking pokeflute thing. It felt like a side area they just wanted to fucking show off, but playtesters barely wasted time there so they made you walk around that shitfest for an hour to show off "LOOK AT HOW BRETTY WE MADE THIS CASTLE"

When i play xy i dread that part. Rest is pretty decently good, to me at least.

Gen 6 is the worst Gen to date. You're not alone on this. A good majority of actual hardcore Pokémon fans hate X/Y.

I'm playing Platinum for 1st time too guys,i'm really having fun with the game!

I genuinely believe gen 6 was far better than gen 5

Already a far more interesting region.
The hints of story we've seen are already better than the entirety of XY.
Riding will probably be improved in SM.
Amie is already confirmed to be better.
Trainer customisation is back, probably also improved.

I don't feel the character or the ideas for them are bad. XY just suffers from having WAAAAAAY to many fucking characters.

Team Flare has a Leader, FIVE executive characters, grunts and then upper grunts.

We get the friends, who just don't show up enough in useful ways/their battles are awful

We have Assistants, who while not a bad idea have no function and their roles could have been given purely to the friends.

Champ appears (once I recall) and doesn't make any real impact.

AZ appears and instead of being a Ghetis surprise challenger is relatively crappy

The gym leaders are such a fucking joke and almost every trainer in the game only has 3-4 pokemon at the most.

The music is definitely the best part of XY.
