It depends. Don't get discouraged.

Software wise, if you're slowly at making lines or do the thing were you re-line the same line your lines digitally are going to come out looking really bad. You'll need to kick the habit of relining first off and a stabilizer might help with making your lines smoother.

Second, unless you have the money to blow and get a 2,000 dollar cintiq tablet you're most likely going to go with a standard tablet. You'll be drawing by not looking at what you're hand is doing but rather what the mouse pointer is doing on your screen. If you have bad hand eye coordination you're going to have a frustrating time at least for a while.

Again, don't get discouraged. If you dedicate time and are patient enough you can learn to overcome bad habits and make nice(r) lines digitally than you could with pen and paper. You WILL eventually get used to drawing by looking at the screen rather than looking at your hands.

It'll feel like any progress and knowledge you already know about drawing amounted to nothing but really it'll pass as you are trying to apply what you already know and adapt to a new way of drawing. Having a tablet is always nice.

I love it when it's working. Unfortunately I got one that was out of a bad batch that crashes every 8 hours or so. Updates aren't fixing it, might have to RMA. Not all of them do it and examples made after about mid June don't do it. Otherwise it's perfect, runs smoothly and has no problem running graphics intensive stuff.

Depends, how much are you willing to spend?

Wacoms are the industry standard, solid, well supported from hardware to drivers. They're really pricey though. They do have lower end affordable tablets within the brand like like Bamboo and Draw.

Monoprice are hit or miss and seen as the alternative for people who don't have a lot to spend. I can't vouch for how well it performs as I don't have one but I do know someone that does have one and they say it works well enough and does come with generic driver support.
