It doesn't seem right for one Pokemon in an evolution branch to receive a mega and have the other one completely dry. Makes it illogical to pick the one without a mega if you're going for power.

The thing is that Slowbro isn't NFE, he's one of Slowpoke's final forms, since you evolve a Slowpoke to a Slowking, not a Slowbro.
