Well, one of the reasons nicknaming is used its (at least for some people) to kinda care more about their pokemon.

Thats why nickaming pokemon is one of the typical rules of nuzlockes, that way you try and protect each pokemon as their own self instead of "generic pidgey number 14", This usually does not include "lolz xd im naming my gardevoir waifu xdddd".
