Version 5.0 for Minecraft 1.10 was released, so the change can happen at any time I think. Considering the nature of the change though, I imagine it wouldn't be hard to carry over the map and player data.

For maps it's all about block IDs. Since the mod changes most likely didn't add new blocks or change old ones, the only thing to worry about is vanilla changes that'd conflict. Even if these problems exist, they can be edited out the correct way or the lazy way. For our pack, it'd be very easy. If you do carry it over though you'd need to generate new chunks in order to get the new stuff.

Carrying over player data is all about if they changed the format in which player data is stored in either minecraft or in any of the mods. So this could either be "oh wow, carried over no problem" or "shit out of luck gotta' start fresh".

I was honestly just thinking about that this morning.

I played the current Gen for awhile when it launched then stopped due to college/work. Just returned a few days ago and thought it's been fun seeing the progress/seeing my house again, I kinda feel no incentive to stick around and do anything at the moment, though i'm really wanting to play at the moment.

Wait the pixelmon server is still up? How do I get on, might be fun

Well, Sun+Moon drops on November 18, and the devs are pretty clear that they lag a generation to help keep Nintendo off their asses. So I'd say November. No idea how much they'll update it though, like with nerfing weather and adding Megas and shit. While I'd love to add Garchomp to my core losing permanent Drought would suck so much wang.
