Niantic is shit, they can't keep servers up longer than a week and they're lazy as fuck on patching glitches they've known about for weeks (3 step and poke ball freeze to name a few.), but realease updates to fix minor text files. Game security is the least of their problems, especially since people have been doing this on ingress for years. You'll get softbans at most for a few minutes or hours depending on if you jump from one end of the globe to the other in under a minute.
