It's actually okay. Don't wander into the anime general or you'll be chastised for not remembering every episode word by word like some autist.

If you want to see Ash be competent, give it a shot. It helps if you like amourshipping at all.

Besides that, the major improvements are animation and certain 10/10 episodes that propel pokemon into traditional anime territory

Best answer. It's worth watching as long as you go in remembering that it's still Pokemon.

It hits you with some curveballs and it fixes the monotonous copy-paste of grinding filler episodes from before, but it's not like team rocket just disappeared. They're still there every other episode. If you can put up with them, then there's only good things to experience from there.
