Why do people bring up trubbish and vanillite to show that gen 5 has the worst designs?

Pokemon has always had goofy bases for pokemon and the infallible gen 1 is the worst offender of this

I hate like half of gen 5 but object based pokemon aren't the issue. The copypaste monkeys and genies, god awful musketeers and abundance of lazy designs are what you should talk about

Should've replaced the Trubbish line with a trash can mon tbqh famalams. Could have got a unique typing too, on top of the design not looking as messy as Garbodor.

When it's simple, it's simple all the way. Voltorb into Electrode. Grimer into Muk. Magnemite into Magneton. When they are supposed to be animals, they look like animals. Magikarp just has scales and fins. Doduo explicitly has feathers and bird-like claws.

The ones that stand out as the most off-ish as Jynx, Magmar, and Mr. Mime and that's mainly because they're human-like and that separates them from the rest of the pokemon.

Compare all the birds in gen 1 or gen 2 with the Pidove line. No real attempt at making the feathers stick out beyond a very basic shape. Solid blocks of colors. Even the shading is barely there.

There is nothing wrong with liking the new designs. But you can't say people are wrong for saying that the designs have greatly deviated from what they originally were in the earlier gens.

First of all the best of the Yokai is better than the worst of Pokemon.

Second it's hardly even comparable since they are two entirely different design concepts. Hardly any of either series would fit in the other.

Finally Yokai actually one ups Pokemon in one place. Coherence! While generally somewhat uglier designs they all look like they belong in the same series. Pokemon's designs vary much more making some feel out of place.
