Basically Shota used Slaking as a counter to Hawlucha and he would have it Slack-Off any damage Hawlucha would do. Then when Ash called for Flying Press, Shota used Counter and one-shotted.
I mean, sure, it establishes Shota as a threat and how well he prepared for this battle, but it just started the battle off with one big wet fart I feel and took all the excitement Hawlucha's entrance started.
Also apparently there some sort of no-switch rule in this battle for some reason? I'm presuming this is the writers just trying to keep the battle close without Greninja KOing 4 mons on Shota's team no-sweat like Infernape did against Paul.

The same way he pushed it in the corner the first time, and the same way he defeated Talonflame, slow it down using Leaf Storm (does this guy still have it?) to prevent it from moving, as well as ranged attacks like Dragon Pulse. Shota knows that Greninja pretty much prefers close combat than just throwing around shurikens.

In the episode where Shota defeats Ash, Sceptile could pretty much go toe to toe with Greninja in speed, which should have cost him his win against Ash since immediately after Ash showed he could ridiculously outspeed it. Alas, Ash got distracted by his inability to sync costing him his win.
