Will Sun/Moon have better-looking 3D models than X/Y did?
Aren't they going to make their movements more realistic?
No.
Nothing will improve until they get off the 3DShit
>>27333449
They're already so high-quality that the 3DS can barely handle them.
They've got 700+ models that are better-quality than the ones used in Wii games crammed into a 3DS cartridge, a system that's roughly on par with the Gamecube.
>>27333449
>>27333455
>>27333475
>>27333517
It's not the models themselves.
It's the coloring and the animations, gray shitty lines and super washed out colors look awful and make any model look 100% worse.
>>27333449
They didn't change the floating animations for mons that really shouldn't be floating, so no.
>>27333542
Floating animations =/= models
The floating Pokemon already have non-flying animations for Pokemon-Amie, they only float in battle.
There's no way they're gonna remodel every pokemon all over again. The models are surprisingly high poly, Gamefreak could get away with using them again when they move over to the NX. All they'd have to do is increase the texture quality.
>>27333517
Those fucking colors tho
why
>>27333688
Because that's the way Sugimori colors them.
His art is the true canon.
>>27333705
It doesn't translates well in 3D, it makes really good models look way worse.
And add it bad animation and choices and you end up with really shitty looking pokemon when they looked way, way better before.
It was supposed to be backwards, the fucking B/W sprites had more life than most models.

Modelling Hippowdon without the sand was a mistake.
>>27333864
Meanwhile this guy looks unenthusiastic as fuck, like he's waiting in line.
And while it doesn't looks that big, when almost every single model is affected by this it becomes really shitty.
>>27333877
Where the hell is the sand supposed to come from if it's not in a desert?
You're stupid if you thought the sand was actually a part of the Pokemon, and not just an artistic choice to make it look it's in a desert.
>>27333568
>Floating animations =/= models
What the fuck is your point?
It means they aren't going to put effort into fixing the models.
>The floating Pokemon already have non-flying animations for Pokemon-Amie
Yeah, which shows how retarded Game Freak is.
>>27333911
*ahem*
Diglet and Dugtrio always have dirt around them.
even when on water or in the air.
>>27333911
Hippowdown stores sand on his body, why do you think he has those openings.
I swear you retards don't even play the fucking games.
>>27333911
The sand comes out of the Hippowdon itself, retard. That's why it has Sand Stream.
This guy looks like he's tired as fuck and barely holding himself together to go catch a bus after a 12 hour shift.
>>27333911
X: It brandishes its gaping mouth in a display of fearsome strength. It raises vast quantities of sand while attacking.
Y: It blasts internally stored sand from ports on its body to create a towering twister for attack.

Happy, colorful pikachu, gives off his personality really quickly.
Colors look really nice
>>27334038
Not even fucking yellow, looks like baby shit yellow/almost green, has no emotion into it and just sits there doing nothing.
the models themselves are nice, but the animation and mainly coloring are beyond subpar.

>>27333887
>>27333945
>>27333957
>>27334038
Don't start this shit again. By and large the Gen V sprites had shitty animations with few exceptions. We ate it up back them because of years of static images but the animation quality is really jerky and unnatural.
>>27333956
>granted pokemon lasts that long
>When the release of Pokemon Go just made Nintendo's partial ownership of an outside company's one division into a financial titan valued greater than the entirety of Sony, as a company.

Pokken models are disgusting, fuck those pseudo-"realistic" textures
>>27334064
You have a million more options and easier animation with 3D animation, I should know I'm a fucking animator, and posts some of these examples.
And even then there's no excuse for these horrid color pallets.
And now in Alola vibrant color scheme they stick out even more, this pichu looks way out of place.
>>27334115
whoops
>>27334139
Probably not the best screenshot, but hasn't Pichu always been a different shade of yellow than Pikachu?
>>27334115
There was an interview recently and some of it was on animation.
http://nintendoeverything.com/pokemon-sunmoon-devs-on-gameplay-changes-improvements-setting-battle-royal-pokemon-go-more/
>– After two games of Pokemon being displayed in 3D instead of pixel art (X/Y and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire), the designers already had a very deep understanding on giving Pokemon expressions. That’s why the Pokemon in this game are being designed by considering their movements.
I'll take it with a grain of salt.
>>27334155
Yeah, Pichu is barely just a bit lighter but they can easily portray that without just fucking up the color scheme of the current game
Ruby/sapphire into fr/lg into emerald did something like this, it redrew sprites and changed some colors to fit fire red and leafgreen more colorful style.
>>27334162
You can see that on this gen pokemon, they're way more colorful and have good animations but older ones, mainly gen 1 ones, look really off.
If litten was in x/y these red stripes would be orange.
>>27333956

"Realistic" textures blend badly with cartoony designs.
If the designs are cartoony, then the colors and textures need to be cartoony too.
Trying to blend fantasy and realism never works.
>>27333911
The sand comes out of the holes in it's body retard. How is this not obvious?
And speaking of Pokken, where is Mewtwo's fur?
As a humanoid cat thing, I expected it to have fur, not just glossy white and purple skin.
>>27333533
Top kek. OP's Butterfree looks ducking retarded regardless of what the model is animated to do. Look at that head. Look at those eyes. Who OK'd this?
>>27333705
>that's the way Sugi colors then
Kill yourself, the current photoshopped plastic Mickey Mouse art is fucking trash.
>>27334530
It's a humanoid clone of a cat thing embryo.
Since when have embryo had fur? You were entirely in the wrong there.
>>27334473
The ingame models look a bit iffy.
The cinematic models though, holy shit these are nice.
>>27334530
GOnormie get the fuck out.
>>27334640
More examples of realism on cartoony done right. Doesn't look too clumped, finely textured, follows normals (brushed) tightly so it's not distracting and well lit.
>>27334597
Sugi's colours were pretty washed out and dull. Looks fine in static artwork but doesn't translate to 3D or movement at all. There's a reason the anime took so many artistic liberties with colour schemes and expressions.
>>27333533
I'm not sure that the 3DS hardware can handle anything more than cel-shading those 700+ models.
It's faithful to the original Sugimori art, sure, but I've got to admit it was a little off-putting to see when X and Y battle footage came out. But whatever. So long as the gameplay's good and the number of Pokemon is high, I can't complain.
Will Flying pokemon be able to sit down?

Am I the only one who actually prefers the more neutral colours?
>>27335532
They already do in Pokemon-Amie. They only fly in battle.
>>27335625
No. I think they fit a 3d environment better than the more saturated sprite colors would. I've seen hacks with the textures changed to be more colorful and it just looks awkward.
The treatment of some shinies has been unforgivable though; pic related.
The models themselves are fine in Go and Pokken (as the support Pokemon). The 3DS limits the quality of the resolution of the textures and some of animations are stiff/not very imaginative, though.
>>27333517
That shade of blue used on 3DS Lucario is actually my favorite color.
>>27334006
Yes, that's correct.
Zangoose's claws were miscolored purple in Gen 3, but they were black in the Sugimori art, and later gens corrected this mistake.

What's going on with his jaw?
Why do the red things on his head look like eyelids?
Shit sprite.

>>27336215
I had no idea what the hell this thing was supposed to be in gen 3, so I usually just knocked it out without thinking too hard about it. Seeing Gardevoir nowadays still creates a bit of dissonance, because I don't mentally associate it with gen 3.
>>27333517
I dislike how flat and smooth the 3DS models are.
The eyes aren't modeled but painted on a flat face.
>>27336279
I genuinely thought the "dress" part was solid with a green belly...like it was a slug lady.
>>27336291
This is common to pretty much every Nintendo game, even on the Wii U
>>27336291
Textured faces tend to be more efficient on processing. You'd be amazed how many polygons they save.

Do you seriously not know the difference between a render and a model? The render is pre-rendered and doctored with Photoshop, the in-game model is significantly less impressive.

>>27335625

>>27336520
Congratulations, you just posted a render.
Literally any model you see in-game is rendered. The only time you actually see a "model" is if you're in a program like blender.
The picture the anon posted was a render of a model. The difference you're looking for is whether or not it's an "in-game" render or not. And it isn't an in-game render. None of the models posted in this thread are in-game renders.
Also, the out of game render that anon posted was literally the model they flew around in the announcement trailer. No photoshop was used.
