They're already so high-quality that the 3DS can barely handle them.

They've got 700+ models that are better-quality than the ones used in Wii games crammed into a 3DS cartridge, a system that's roughly on par with the Gamecube.

It's the coloring and the animations, gray shitty lines and super washed out colors look awful and make any model look 100% worse.

The floating Pokemon already have non-flying animations for Pokemon-Amie, they only float in battle.

There's no way they're gonna remodel every pokemon all over again. The models are surprisingly high poly, Gamefreak could get away with using them again when they move over to the NX. All they'd have to do is increase the texture quality.

It doesn't translates well in 3D, it makes really good models look way worse.
And add it bad animation and choices and you end up with really shitty looking pokemon when they looked way, way better before.

It was supposed to be backwards, the fucking B/W sprites had more life than most models.

Ruby/sapphire into fr/lg into emerald did something like this, it redrew sprites and changed some colors to fit fire red and leafgreen more colorful style.

You can see that on this gen pokemon, they're way more colorful and have good animations but older ones, mainly gen 1 ones, look really off.

Sugi's colours were pretty washed out and dull. Looks fine in static artwork but doesn't translate to 3D or movement at all. There's a reason the anime took so many artistic liberties with colour schemes and expressions.

I'm not sure that the 3DS hardware can handle anything more than cel-shading those 700+ models.

It's faithful to the original Sugimori art, sure, but I've got to admit it was a little off-putting to see when X and Y battle footage came out. But whatever. So long as the gameplay's good and the number of Pokemon is high, I can't complain.

No. I think they fit a 3d environment better than the more saturated sprite colors would. I've seen hacks with the textures changed to be more colorful and it just looks awkward.
The treatment of some shinies has been unforgivable though; pic related.

Literally any model you see in-game is rendered. The only time you actually see a "model" is if you're in a program like blender.

The picture the anon posted was a render of a model. The difference you're looking for is whether or not it's an "in-game" render or not. And it isn't an in-game render. None of the models posted in this thread are in-game renders.

Also, the out of game render that anon posted was literally the model they flew around in the announcement trailer. No photoshop was used.
