It was reviled for like ten years.

Only toward the end of Gen 5 did it become popularly acceptable to like Gen 3, between remake hype and Gens 4/5 souring different parts of the fanbase for similar reasons. And then ORAS happened and now it's polarizing again.

So many of my favorite designs came from 3rd gen. Emerald's postgame was the best I've ever experienced, Colosseum and XD had some of the best ACTUAL plot in any Pokemon Game, Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky aside. Abilities were a great breath of fresh air to the game mechanics, and the sheer limitless possibilities of double battles made it my favorite battle format.

Every gen starting gen 3 was shated by one or more excuses
