This is one of those Mon's that confuses me, because it's clearly six individual separate creatures who aren't physically connected to each other at all, yet six of them together miraculously forms a "species." Same goes for Dugtrio.

Yes, it was visually inspired by eggs, but it is a pile of seeds. Hence the grass typing, and the fact that it turns into a tree.

It wouldn't die, but it would be mildly to wildly painful for the Exeggcute.

Like having a nail break and a large portion of it comes off or something.
The Exeggcute's yoke is a part of it's body and it can live if it's "exposed", but it would just be sensitive until it hardened up or grew a new shell.

That's my best guess anyway.

The pokedex says they heads of an Exeggutor constantly re-grows and fall offs to become Exeggcute, so I can only imagine that Exeggutor must have "soft-shelled" yellow heads from not having to roll around or bounce on the ground.
