Wimpod is not an isopod or a horseshoe crab. It's a silverfish.
>Both are very prone to running at the sign of danger.
>Silverfish are found near coasts and Wimpod is a bug/Water type.
>Very similar look and color.

What say you /vp/?

What is a Wharf Roach?

Silverfishes are gross.

Damn son have I been getting silverfish and wharf roaches confused this whole time??? Well that's embarrassing. Well That is totally what wimpod is based off of.

its shell is the shape of a trilobite's but is smooth like a horseshoe crab. It has long, bent antennae like many isopods. Like many Pokémon, it's based on several different real world animals.

You're right. This is what I was thinking of when thinking of Wimpod's inspiration.

It is George Costanza.

>Eats garbage and other detritus.

It's a wharf roach with a trilobite-esque head-plate. Seems pretty open and shut.
>>
>>27288674
Wimpod is literally a shrimp! A SHRIMP!
>>
>silverfish are found near coasts
Im about as close to the center of North America as you can get and I have silverfish

Yeah. Ive established that I have been lumping Silverfish and wharf roaches under the same name incorrectly. It's a wharf roach, not a silver fish. My bad.

it's a triops

it's a horseshoe crab/silverfish/wharf roach hybrid

I'm surprised that so many people can't grasp this when GF has done this since the beginning. Good luck pinning the Nidos as a single animal.

It's a Pokémon faggots. A fictional character based on different kinds of animals, plants or other objects. Stop arguing about what the inspiration behind it was.
>>
>>27291504
I'm almost certain the Nidorans are based off of the Almiraj/Bunicorn monsters from Dragon Quest.

Sugimori is a huge Toriyama fanboy after all, and the mythical Almiraj itself is a venomous carniverous rabbit with a unicorn horn.

Like the armor of most isopoda? Just stop shoving horseshoe crab in, occam's razor can remove it completely.

>Wimpod is not X, it's Y!
Wimpod is inspired by SEVERAL THINGS. Isopods, Copepods, Silverfish, Trilobites. It's not a hard concept to grasp. Most pokemon are have more than one single basis of inspiration.

>Silverfish are found near coasts and Wimpod is bug/water type
Silverfish are found EVERYWHERE, stop reaching.
>>
>>27293988
Yeah, but they are found near coasts!
>>
>>27291399
It is a Baragon.
>>
>>27293988
I love diplomatic faggots who clearly don't know a thing about biology who just says everyone's theory is right.

Why make it an amalgamation of 40 things when you can cut it down to Wharf Roach and Trilobite without losing a thing.
>>
Can't We all just agree that like many other pokemon it draws inspiration from multiple real life animals? Furthermore, all the animals mentioned in Wimpod's post are really similar in shape, so it could be that it is based on the idea of a fucking bug thing that lives in water, stop whining about useless shit you manchildren
>>
>>27296292
>man, people are discussing what the potential inspiration of something is instead of going on about pokemon go or making fake leak threads

>Pokémon is not X, it's Y!
Literally every argument on /vp/ ever and you just answered it correctly; THINGS CAN BE BASED ON MULTIPLE THINGS VEEPEEPEE HFS
>>
>>27296394
Yeah, it's a Wharf Roach crossed with a Trilobite.
>>
>>27291175
its weird because a "kabuto" is a beetle, so is kabuto a trilobite or a beetle?
>>
>>27296362
We have tons of threads about this fucker and all the possible options have already been mentioned (trylobites, triops, horseshoe crab, silverfish, isopods ecc ecc) so I don't understand why y'all keep fighting about it
>>
>>27296478
Kabuto is a helmet, why he evolves to Kabu'Tops'... like a tophat.
>>
>>27296478
Kabuto refers to the samurai helmet in this case. Those are what the reallife versions are named in Japanese. Kind of like if you called it Rhinofish in english.

>Pokemon can only be based on one thing
>>
>>27296496
Its cause people don't read the entire thread before commenting. They just read the first post, and then add their two cents and the thead loops eternally. It is fun to discuss potential possibilities for a design.

It doesn't mean its all those options however. I think the best option is still a (giant) Wharf Roach crossed with a Trilobite, it gets all the attributes with the minimum amount of creatures added to the mix.

>>27296443
This.

Sorry anon but you couldn't be more wrong. Not only am I diplomatic AND a faggot, but I am also nearing the completion of my Masters degree in Marine Biology. Every organism I listed has qualities that can be seen in Wimpods design. Notice that I didnt include the Horseshoe Crab nonsense that's been tossed around. That's because not everyone's theory is right.

Nice try, though!

Meanwhile, it's Japanese name is Kosokumushi. 'Mushi' meaning bug. No real identifying aspect. It's French name has the word for lice, and its German name has the word for louse.

Meanwhile, Salandit (whose name denotes a salamander) has a Japanese name (And two other language names) that denote it is a newt.

What's this tell us? It tells us that you can't always rely on simply the name itself. This is especially true when many Pokemon share traits from more than one source creature/object.
>>
>>27288674
The names are puns and loosely based on real world animals/objects
>>
>Very similar look and color
Except that's wrong.
>>
>>27294318
>>27291468
Both are right, but that's part of them. They're a real mishmash of animals and media.
>>
Pokémon can be based on multiple things.
>>
>>27300003
>lice
>louse
It should probably be worth mentioning that these could easily refer to the wood louse or water louse, both of which ARE isopods.
>>
>>27299831
Then why with your masters degree use Occam's Razor and eliminate the ones that add nothing to the design, and are better represented in another organism?

The attributes of Wimpod people attribute to Silverfish are very clearly seen in Wharf Roaches, so adding it to the pot adds nothing.

And none of the iconic traits (third eye, long flat "tail" that branches into a pair of whips, the "whiskers") of the Triops is present in Wimpod, and the similarities can be better attributed to both Wharf Roach AND Trilobite.
>>
>>27300003
Isn't Kumushi almost exclusive as a suffix for Isopods?
