Hey /vp/ I was a huge pokemon fan back in the day with Red, but kind of dropped the series after. In college I picked up Pearl on a whim and fell in love again, getting to like 300 something pokemon until some drunk guy overwrote my game.
Now with all the hype surrounding Go I really want to get back into the series but I have no idea where to start. What would you suggest for someone who doesnt have a 3DS? I see theres heartgold/soulsilver, black/white and black/white 2 and have no clue whats up. What would you suggest?

BW is only gen 5 pokemon up until the postgame, so if you'd enjoy that then go with that. If you'd rather have some familiar territory start with HGSS.

I dont really mind new, but how much unlocks after postgame? Can I catch a whole bunch of previous generation pokemon?

You basically unlock an extra third of the map that has mostly previous gen mons.

A reasonable amount. B/W has an alright postgame.
B2/W2 had the most postgame yet, but I'd still suggest playing B/W first. I liked being forced to play with only new stuff, and damn near every Unova Pokemon is useable. In fact, other than the monkey trio, the starters are some of the worst.

Post-game, yes.

Alright I think Im gonna go grab Pokemon White, I do like the idea of being forced to use new pokemon then catching older mons as postgame. Then ill just grab white 2 and transfer everything over.
Thanks guys!

No problem.
I should point out that most people think B2/W2 are the better games, if not the best in the mainline. For me, I was too burnt out on Pokemon to enjoy them. So my opinions my be a little bit skewed.
That said, if you want to use only new shit, B/W are the way to go.
