Serperior is one of my favorites but it doesn't have much variety if you don't have its Contrary ability. I liked the Coil/Leaf Blade combo though.

How so? I been through twice with Snivy and Elesa's aerial ace and flame charge mons usually have me bench Servine for the fight.

Tips: never pick the water starter. this is because the water type is the most common type in game, so you will undoubtedly encounter many (many of which are better than your starter anyway) along your journey.

the grass starter is next - preferable to not pick it, but it is a better option than the water starter. this is because the grass type is not terribly useful.

the best choice is the fire starter - fire types have high attack stats/speed so they are usually pretty fun to use in game... the fire type is also a rare type among pokemon and you are not likely to encounter many along your journey. this means that while you may decide to replace your oshawott with a gyarados and your snivy with an exeggutor, you might not find anything short of volcarona with which to replace your emboar.

Except Emboar is very meh and he's better off with Darmanitan, Chandelure and Volcarona. He made a good choice, Snivy line is the only one that gets Coil by level up in Gen V I believe and it has access to a lot of good moves to help it set up, it helped me a ton against the elite four, which in B/W 1 are probably the hardest challenge in the mainline games

Snivy is the only one worth keeping for in-game at all. Leech Seed + Toxic. And it's movepool is so barren, you don't feel to terrible for giving it Strength.

Otherwise, it doesn't matter and just ditch whoever you pick. Gen V had so many good and interesting Pokemon that make these look like shit.
