It's not really a battle theme. It's more of an encounter theme, which is why it a) is so short and b) starts playing on the overworld. It replaces Wally's normal encounter theme when you encounter him in the Battle Maison, and gives way to the normal trainer battle theme during his postgame rematches.

In fact aside from the Plasma grunt theme I'm pretty sure Wally's theme is better than every gen 5 theme.

It has the same problems as Wally's theme, it tries way too hard to sound epic, and as for an example, I wouldn't remember an exact example because most shitty games I've played have had similar music. FE Fates, many Tales games. Go through their soundtracks, because I don't care to myself. It doesn't work as a battle theme. Though I do have to give it credit, it's an underwhelming theme for an underwhelming character.

He's much more fleshed out in the remakes. The final battle with him is extremely badass. He fights using Mega Gallade and the arena is a field of flowers with petals swirling around.

He's also the strongest trainer in the game in the final post-game rematch.

I'm pretty sure his battle theme was just supposed to be the music that plays when you meet him though, but they realized it was pretty cool and let it play for the actual fight too.

This doesn't sound like a typical orchestral track, it's rapid fire violin and fucking accordion for fuck's sake, with a ten tonne beat. No it isn't unique, but it's far from generic.

I had no idea why anyone liked the theme so much, and I still don't. It's awful and nothing special at all. Just plain guitar crap and bad beat.

See, these themes have this really neat thing called variation. It allows the track to do different things throughout so that it doesn't get stale. They are also loud and powerful with heavy beats, as they should be.

These have little variation. 30 seconds in and you're already bored of the tune. Nothing happens in these tracks. The first one just loops and the other just goes faster and faster before looping.

SM wild battle music is worse.

It's really underwhelming though. Just an Encounter theme looped into battle. It's got good ideas behind it but they executed it poorly. Works well enough in the spur of the moment.

I have to admit I like her encounter theme better and that a remix of it ala Wally but longer would be a better battle theme, but it's still a great track.
