No they weren't. XY had probably the best distrubation out of any series and only in the latest 10 episodes has it been Greninja centric for good reason. Well, it was all started by someone falseflagging as a DPfag, but at the end it ended up raising some interesting points about both series.

For my part, I think Dawn's arc was handled better than Serena's and Paul's rivalry is still top-notch (not to say Serena's arc or Alan's or Shota's rivalries are bad; they're good, just that they didn't surpass the ones I mentioned), but XY handled better the gyms, Team Rocket and the pokemon development. Also, XY did better at creating an overarching plot for the evil team, and everything points to TF arc being the GOAT evil team arc.

I can't still say if the Kalos league will surpass the Sinnoh one: the two episodes so far were good for a league arc, although nothing extraordinary. But the fact that we might be getting next two of the best battles in the history of the anime, and in a row, might put XY over DP league-wise.

TR is much better in XY than DP.

The only good things about them in DP was Jessie winning some ribbons in Contests and about 3-4 TR centric episodes, but other than that they were annoying because they appeared in EVERY single episode.

Oh, please. Ash vs Paul might still the best battle in the anime, and Ash beating two legendaries is impressive, but besides those the Sinnoh league isn't that special. Ash vs Nando and Conway, and Paul vs Barry were good, but not leaps above from what we've seen so far in Kalos. The only difference is the number of battles shown, and this is obvious because they're using one league episode to start the TF plot. Ash vs Paul will be hard to top, but if the next two battles are what they're expected to be, they will carry Kalos into being the best league, just like Paul and Tobias do with the Sinnoh league. I don't think any of those battles will individually be better than Ash vs Paul, but they'll be better on average than the two main DP league battles.

And the froge's transformation has been foreshadowed ever since the Olympia gym battle.

No, Infernape's Blaze was driven by its anger which was caused by Paul's mistreatment. The conflict was putting its past behind it, and learning to channel its anger into power. It's emotionally driven and directly ties into the character arcs.

I suppose I was exaggerating the comparison, but the forme is still an asspull. The 'prophecy' was just weaksauce last minute scrambling to give their asspull a modicum of buildup. But that only entailed mentioning it. There was nothing leading up to it from a character building standpoint, it was just a power that they suddenly got. Yes learning it did give XYZ some much needed conflict, but again, nowhere near Infernape and DP. And as a result, its battles don't have as much tension.
