Most Pokemon Gen 3 or after are styled differently from Gen 1. Gen 1 focused on kaijus and/or ambiguous looking creatures that have more realistic proportions while in later gens "my mom's dog" type designs and cartoony cutesy designs are more common. I'm not saying they're good or bad. But there definitely is a difference.

None have as many as gen 1. Notice how many gen 1 designs are dinosaur or reptilian looking creatures? Different generations consciously follow different design choices often based on the region that they're set in and the design team's artistic direction at the time.

A lot of gen 1's design choices are based on the graphical capabilities of the hardware at the time. Designs were able to grow in complexity as hardware evolved to support them, which is why some gen 5 designs seemed over the top in comparison to the original 151.

Saying that you only like the gen 1 designs stems purely from nostalgia. Their quality is no better than today's mons, they're just simpler for very specific reasons.

A pokemon doesn't 'look like' anything in particular, if it's in the game, it's a pokemon.

I agree each gen, has different-looking pokemon design styles (maybe group 1 and 2), but it seems more like just the result of A) the colours and B) the designers choosing a different design philosophy. I'm no artist but for me, the gen 5 mons all have a unique flavour, if you look at something like Snivey, his design is more silhouette-ey, like based of geometric shapes, whereas a gen 6 mon like Gogoat still looks good as a silhouette but seems more "anatomically-correct". I don't think that has anything to do with America Vs. France.

Those weren't coded into Gen I or confirmed to be scrapped from it. Those are just the Pokemon that glitch Pokemon turn into when transferred from Gen I to II, because GSC looks at their index numbers in RBY's code and matches them to Gen II Pokemon in GSC's code. Notice how they're all from the end of dex.

Most people who can play Pokemon Go regularly and spend money on it are at an age where they feel most comfortable with the original 151. A lot of people didn't play after Gold/Silver.

Now they're enjoying a fresh take on something they are familiar with from their childhoods.

I've played every gen barring 3 and 4. Gen 1 is still my "favorite" I guess. But honestly, I think it's good they started with just the 151 because having several hundred Pokemon would leave people finding all sorts of random shit all over the place unable to manage their inventory, evolve well, and leave them a bit lost. The current number is a good tight amount when considering the game design.

I'm sure Gen 2 will come someday. But there is a shit ton of work that needs to be done on the game already there before they even consider it in my opinion. Might be a while. And while I prefer Gen 1, I'll welcome Gen 2 if I'm still playing. Maybe it'll even get me back into it.

To get the argument you need to read the post. Pokemon distribution would be a fucking nightmare with the way evolution works in this game. You would quickly also fill up several hundred slots even without keeping multiples. The game needs a lot of work before it moves on beyond the 151.

My argument is adding beyond Gen 1 would be a terrible fucking move right now. Adding Gen 1 to this game is the best choice considering it's designed very closely around the concept of Ingress.
