Actually, considering, nothing went wrong because it was made for a system in which you couldn't have that much visual flair to start with, so of course it's bland.

Sevii really has no excuse, they could've made a more extensive postgame if they wanted.

Johto has better story elements, but like with Kanto, it was made for a simpler system, so it is also not that stunning.

I will never not be complexed by that fence maze between Fuchsia and the route south of Lavender town. The route feels like one of the longer ones without a town or cave before you add it, and with it there I feel like they meant to have some neat construction site going on but couldn't fit the assets or ran short of time.

Route 119 is my favorite route so I get where you're coming from, but the difference is that 119 has actual roads and open space. A lot of sinnoh puts a ridicoulus amount of grass between you and your destination, as well as a higher encounter rate. Then you also have a ridicoulus amounts of HM's needed.

Sinnoh almost always gives the option of skipping the grass, bar a few outliers (frontier zone).Usually you are given the choice of chancing a grass route or a trainer battle, but i always fight the trainers anyway so it made no difference. Although I live hoenn too, the lack of forced grass segments meant my team was always stagnant, if you wanted a new pokemon you would have to try find it or know where they reside rather than stumble on them.

It doesn't. The Ruins of Alph is a separate map in the game's coding. I don't have that picture on me that shows it, but the map is just too small for the gate entrances to the north and east to match with those on the overworld.

ya know what? I really disliked sinnoh but taking a look at it here for the first time in like 10 years, it actually doesn't look that bad. It's got some cool environments, but like someone else said, some of the routes were very tedious and there was so much HM gating. I think remakes will give them an opportunity to really nail it

Just saw the HGSS Arceus event, and I am stunned. Sinnoh's lore is my absolute favorite in the series, and the fact that there is no way to legitimately get to the Sinjoh Ruins pisses me off to no end. It's only the point from which Arceus created the entire world!

Yeah. Gen 4 in general has amazing lore between Sinnoh and Johto. Almost every location has some historical purpose. And also the best of both worlds with Sinnoh's one big cohesive lore and Johto's different lore for each location.

Houndoom, Larvitar, Murkrow and Misdreavus can't be found until post-game.

Most of the trainers use Kanto Pokemon. Hell, Falkner, Bugsy, Morty and Chuck don't have any Johto Pokes at all.

Terrible level curve. Seriously, boss Pokemon of Clair is 30-something and the E4 jump to mid-40's so you have to grind in Victory Road for a few hours.

Also, too small for the routes, but limitations make that forgivable.

If you are going to make analogies to sound smart and ironic, at least make sure they are not dumb as fuck. Just because it happens in real life, doesn't mean it's not ugly in real life too.

And europeans in particular hate that. Just look at Paris, with the eiffel tower first, and years later the Tour Montparnasse, and again later with the Louvre pyramid. Pretty shit analogy overall.

Sinnoh is just ugly. Eternia city has Hinamizawa houses mixed with brooklyn brownstones and a buzz light year building on top. Then there's the city with the church, the giant dome and the pointless pokemon park with giant termite nests. Besides being ugly, it's arranged in the most retarded way possible, with the idyllic flower town famous for it's pure flower aroma being stuck between the shibuya crossing and fucking ironworks. Oh and the egyptian obelisc right next to the hillbilly town.

Unova went even more retarded with this, with the desert in the middle of a metropolis.

Kalos' "desert" isn't even a desert though. It's a badlands caused by too much irrigation. The game explains it to you. And if you notice, the gate leading to it follow's Lumiose's river, adding to that explanation. But yeah even I have to call shenanigans on Snowbelle's gym causing snow.

Also Sinnoh's desert area was actually just a bunch of ash from the volcano, like route 119.

Not really. People have noticed that there's 9 unused gym badge items in the inventory and there was a town cut under Celadon though.
There's also extra unused trainers, an unused mart, and some other shit that's not connected to anything. The Safari Zone also had some cut content and was originally gonna have you fight Silph employees in the rest areas.

One that's bugged me is the town color/badge naming disparities between the English and Japanese versions (Palette Town, Celadon City, Indigo Plateau) and how the SGB town palettes follow the English names.

Also, I find it really weird how the highest numbered routes are above Cerulean City. I wonder if it was one of the last places to be designed.
