Things like this make me feel really unlucky. I'm 20, and my strongest is 1261. Only thing I've seen in the wild over 900 was a 1082 Pidgeot that I found earlier today.

I did find a Dragonite once, but it was fairly low on the semicircle. After using every Dratini candy it gave me, it's now 603, and since Dratini don't spawn around here it's stuck there.

The way the gyms works is pretty bad from a business standpoint. Eventually the barrier to entry will be so high, that people simply won't play the game. What are people going to do against 5000 CP pokemon? You'll basically have to been playing as long as the game has been out to stand a chance, good fucking luck if you started late.

Don't really see anything higher than 1500 around here, so everything's safely beatable with patience and numbers.

...but there's so many people playing that gyms basically flip every hour. You kinda have to claim your defender bonus immediately or you're just going to risk wasting your time.

The level-up requirements increase pretty sharply after 20, so I'm not sure how many people will ever reach 5,000 CP. I'd be surprised if there isn't some cap well below that anyway.

The flip side to this is that gyms are not mandatory to enjoy the game. Even without gyms you can still enjoy the game by catching pokemon.

This is also why there are teams in the game. So you're low level? Gather up other team members in your area. Odds are at least one of them will be good enough that if paired with someone else, they could easily take down the gym. Bring down the gym low enough and it will be 6v1. And boom. They're gone. Sure they will be able to easily take the gym back, but that's the fun of the game, now isn't it?

That's what I do. There's a Pokestop in range of where I work that's lured 90% of the time, mostly by five different people. Those five people have basically paid for this game for me.

The bigger problem is that the gyms in my area are being fought over CONSTANTLY. If you manage to take a gym the longest it'll last is 20 minutes before someone stomps you and throws in a sub 200 cp shitmon. Its like they have fun playing the game of whoever wastes their potions first. Another thing about taking the gyms is that there's always someone hiding and waiting to snipe it from you after you take it down, and if they're camping the gym for that exact purpose they will beat you to it 9 out of 10 times.

how do gyms work? I'm currently low level so i easily get slaughtered at gyms. If someone has a gym with a high CP pokemon how long do they hold on to them? If no one where to come and challenge them, would they eventually lose the gym due to expiration or will they hold on to it forever?

The gyms in my area are manageable (highest level mons are usually around level 1000) but they might as well be unbeatable because they get taken in a matter of minutes.

The biggest issue is the fact that we have a ton of pokestops and gyms but they are mostly graffitis right below people's houses so you dont even get to see who took down your gym 5 minutes after you claimed it.
