If they don't show any next month I'll start thinking there isn't. By this time into the XY news cycle they already showed one or two of the gym leaders and there were a couple of obvious gym areas right in the first trailer.

I still believe that because alola seems fairly nature based, wouldn't surprise me if that cave you go through in the teaser was a gym forest. Catch pokemon in a gym, and adds a better way to block progress other than a random npc that says you can't go by for some dumb reason or other but once you get the badge are done.

Beating gyms has been the 2nd most fundamental things next to catching all the pokemon for generations.
