I met Clemont's dub VA at an IHOP in New York yesterday. He was eating pancakes and asked the nice waitress to get five more extra bottles for his table only. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for your meal first.”

At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When they started the transaction, he stopped her multiple times by burping in her face rudely, making her smell all the maple goo he just swallowed down. Then he left while gorging down on his leftovers saying "WOAH WELCOME TO EB GAMES. COPY THAT"

And when people say that it could not have been because Ash is so powerful, I could easily see them making Ash's league run at least as exciting as DP's if only he got to meet the right, competent people. Why would Trevor and Tierno be thrown off for the other rivals to face, for example? It's Ash we're supposed to follow and root for, not the rivals. And even then, it's not too much of a stretch to make people who at least are capable of Mega Evolution to give an exciting show for it to be worth an episode, rather than just 3 seconds of screentime.

It's obvious that moves will play some part in SM given Kukui is researching Pokemon attacks.
That and the 3 starters powering up due to the weird dance and gems followed by them each using an attack of the specific type the gem's represented obviously means that it's some sort of super move they can use.
It's not hard to infer that "Super Moves", for lack of a better term, will play some part in the game.

The fuck are you talking about? League matches are the flashiest in the series. I don't mean the trainers TRYING to be flashy deliberately, I mean the animators drawing it that way. Tierno's style lends itself to that.

Tierno's flashiness was practical, it confused opponents and streamlined his movements. It's his fighting style. Abandoning it makes for a poor showing of his character and a disappointing battle.

Yeah but that's just a matter of presentation, not some in-universe thing of everyone suddenly deciding showmanship is important during important fights. Like look at Greninja's extended transformation sequence in his first abbreviated league match against croptop guy. In a contest battle it'd be like "holy shit that coordinator must have trained him real good to make such an entrance", In a league match it's not commented since it's just to make an impression on the viewer. Alternatively it's a premeditated show of intimidation on Ash's part but he doesn't strike me as that kind of guy.

I'd like to add that we'd already seen the rhythm strategy not work against strong enough opponents. During the double battle between Raichu/Wartortle and Pikachu/Goodra, the latter two simply overpowered Tierno's team without letting them dodge by dancing. As for Tierno vs Shota, Shota mostly attacked as Tierno's Pokémon were also attacking, which is probably the counter to his rhythm strategy he mentioned to Ash before the battle.
