I am not cherry picking. Grass starts have always been the bulky / defensive starters, with the odd exception of shitlizard from gen 3. There is literally no reason for anyone to expect a grass starter to be offensive.

Fire starters are the offensive ones. Water starters are balanced. Grass starters lean to the defensive side.

Speaking of HA decisions, curse / amnesia torterra boasting shell armor may or may not count as offensive. I normally view torterra, venusaur, and chesnaught as tanks, m-venusaur and meganium as outright defensive, and sceptile and serperior as awkwardly offensive.

I don't know if we should argue on if "tanks" are offensive or defensive, because afaik, it just means a lot of each and no speed.

Bulbasaur was my first starter and Ivysaur still is my favorite Pokemon ever (got another one in FireRed and got him all the way to level 100, still using him in Alpha Sapphire), but Venusaur is seriously meh.
