As far as American areas go I would like to see a Great Lakes area shrunk down to incorporate both the American and Canadian lands. There would be a lot you could do with this. It could have two evil organizations, Pokemon Leaf being Canadian, Pokemon Star being American. It could have incorporate sports such as football, hockey, and baseball into the gyms. The ice hockey gym, the fighting football gym, and the poison baseball gym from all the steroids used. There are many major cities, and the evil HQ would be in Chicago on the US side, and I don't know on the Canadian side. I really think it could work pretty well.

For a more tropical location use the Texas/Louisiana gulf coast.

But I really want a German or Italy inspired game.

There are other official Pokemon translation languages that deserved a good region more than a shitty NYC-USA macroregion we got in Gen 5, Chinese and Russian (apparently being used lately in the official game site) could be some possibiluties as much as Italy, Spain and even Africa or South America, classic Australia + New Zealand and South East Asia.

I know they claim Orre is Arizona, and Phenac City and all, but... even if we argue its position in Gen III, its strong ties to Hoenn (Kyushu) and Johto (Kansai et al.) with imported mons (due to a lack of wild Pokemon)... it feels far more like Hiroshima.
