So how's the GO scene in your city, /pgg/?

It's pretty decent here (Sudbury, (Northern) Ontario, Canada; 160 000). Plenty of Pokéstops and gyms, though Mystic is the clear ruler of the land.

There's usually 20+ people hanging around downtown, every hour of the day (and night), though the rest of the city is kind of dead because New World sprawl.

I just pick what I prefer. On my attackers I like having shorter animations on the basic attacks with 2 bar moves on specials. On my defenders I prefer to have longer animations on basics and 1 big bar moves on specials, especially if the Poke has a lot of HP. The AI cheats like mad and even if it's 1 big bar, they just occasionally spam the special over and over again.

The damage is pretty poor when attacking, that's true BUT Chansey specifically (Snorlax to an extent also) is a bit special. Chansey has really low CP, for example mine is capped and I'm trainer level 19. That means when I place it at a gym, it gets places towards the beginning of the list, so attackers need to go through it first. It slowly takes away their battle time and chips at their pokemon and when they get to the higher end pokes, those can sometimes take out the weakened ones pretty easily. Really annoying to deal with.

To my understanding Pokemons don't have stats other than CP and HP, size has been confirmed to not affect anything if Reddit is to be trusted. I believe the biggest factors are the animations of the moves. I prefer shorter animations on attacking pokes, because they allow quick dodges if you're into those and some moves "stun" the defending pokemon. For example my Golduck has water gun as its basic attack and the opposing pokes always flinch a bit when it hits, delaying their next attack. I believe that might just be placebo too though, there's really no telling with this game.

You can tell how fast the attacks are by battling with the pokemon in a gym. It seems like lower damage moves are faster, which might build up your special move more quickly. It's hard to tell, though. All I know is steel wing pidgeots are useless when high CP eeveelutions are so common right now.

When attacking gyms, I feel like AI usually opens with 2 basic attacks every single time, followed by a slight pause, which in turn is then followed up by a special move. I think the AI just cheats. Sometimes they use specials that I know have bigger loads, like Body Slam, and they just use it several times in quick succession. I believe it may be partially due to server lag, but it's still rather ridiculous at times. It also feels like the AI hits harder with moves that don't normally seem to do that much damage, absolutely the biggest reason why I get slow charging, hard hitting moves for my defender pokes.
