Especially since Lapras' Pokedex entry says it is a comfortable ride anyway, so why would such a seat be necessary? I could see some sort of harness for somebody else's Sharpedo, but Lapras are supposed to be gentle and understand human speech/thoughts, so it wouldn't need any.

With harnesses like this, I'm starting to think racing Pokémon is a thing, because there's no need for them otherwise, plus the suit when riding on land. Pointless unless you're racing.
Jesus christ, was XY really that much of a tech demo? They even showed a Rhyhorn racetrack and showed it in the anime, called your mother a professional Rhyhorn rider and everything. And it's shafted until the next gen? I get XY was the first game with 3D models, but it's really annoying that Kalos got shafted so hard like this.

I don't wanna overreact like I did with Gogoat riding in the trailer meaning we can ride pokemon instead of bikes, but here I go. I really hope that each pokemon has a 3d surf animation.

I wish they made it so that you can only surf on big enough Pokémon with their own models. If yours are too small you have a "rental" one that you can call anytime you need (like Soaring, except it's not a legendary). Same for Fly.

HMs will become TMs with overworld uses like Flash did. That way we can still have the novelty but aren't limited to needing the move on our pokemon. Maybe people will even make "HM runs" where you can't use the items and need to rely on pokemon the old fashioned way.
Or maybe GF is keeping HMs and that pic is just a shitty area-limited thing like the Skiddo ranch.
