You have to level up the gym/prestige it so that more slots open up. Level 2 can have 2 trainers, level 4 can have 4, and so on. If you can't put any on, start grinding that prestige level up by training at the gym.

I've noticed team instinct has gyms at my local nature preserves and graveyards.

Evolving your mons gives a huge boost to their CP. some have doubled or even tripled.

For the mons that don't evolve, they might have been hatched. When an egg hatches, it gives you a lot of candies of that mon as well. Therefore you can level that mon.

As far as catching high CP mons, it seems to come down to the luck of the draw. I'm level 12 and am just now starting to find some mons in the 600s.

In the end though, it all comes down to your ability to git gud

In all honesty, I don't really know.

Me personally, I'm waiting until I get to a higher level to try and take gyms and such. The higher level you are, the higher CP mons you can find. What I'm doing in the meantime is evolving really common mons that I have tons of candy for, and saving my stardust until I'm about level 20. That way I've got some to throw at gyms and to defend gyms with until I can start leveling my more powerful mons.

One guy on here said he was leveling his basics, and then evolving after they were 400 or so and the evolutions would be above 1000. But I don't know how the CP cap really works yet for evolutions. And again, the higher level you are the higher level CP you find in the wild. So theoretically you could get to level 20, find 800+ basics, then evolve for some serious CP.

I wish I knew more to help more.

Only 600+ I've seen so far is a Scyther that ran away. I've only seen three in the 400s and those were Ivysaur, Gloom, and Starmie.

Since leveling and evolving aren't based on experience through battle like the regular games, a lot of the higher CP mins you'll see the start with are the more common ones. It's easier to get candies for them, so they're easier to level. That's why you see a lot of Eeveelutions, Pidgeots, Raticates, etc. The Snorlax and others you see that are high CP probably come from those egg hatches, since hatching gives you a bigger supply of candies per mon than catching them in the wild.

For example, I hatched a Ponyta without catching a single one and I have 12 candies for it.

New instinct member here in a small-ish town.

I got a Pidgeot at like level 4 with a decent move set (hurricane). What level should I start dumping dust into him to level him up? I was thinking 10 is a good place to start.

Also have a raticate and almost have a Charmeleon, gonna be a while for the Charizard I think. I can't find charmanders anywhere... What are some other must haves before I work towards taking on some of these mystic gyms around town?
