If a "nearby pokemon" is 3 steps away it honestly doesn't seem worth searching for

I spotted a Hypno earlier in town and I walked north for 100, then circled around till I was back where I was originally and it never went down to 2 steps

What you should be paying attention to is the position of the pokemon you want in the nearby list. Top left means it is the closest out of the list. So if you're searching for it and you notice it going down the list, you're already walking the wrong way.

So well so my gym was claimed an hour or so after I took it for glorious Valor, so I went back out over there to capture it again. I reclaimed it, and on my way back home I stumbled across 3 Mystics and chatted em up. They are the ones I'm fighting with for this gym. Their leader has a CP350 Pidgeot, I've got a 400 one. The cute little female that was with them was the one that claimed the gym, she had a ratticate.

I've noticed on my walks that the nearby small boat docks doesn't have any pokemon spawns even though there are two pokestops over there, and there's only one spawn on my home but a fuckton just around it in an area with a bunch of parks and small apartment buildings.

Also I think I spotted two new pokestops today but the downtime fucked me over and I didn't actually go check them out. I'm fairly sure they weren't there before today so it seems like they're still adding locations. Might be that the pokemon spawns will also get tweaked as time goes on.

The thing is there are 3 servers for this game. Google login, PTC login, and Niantic's actual game servers.

PTC keeps being down because Pokemon.com isn't a website that ever gets high traffic, why the fuck would they invest in servers? Google's login servers are never down because they're fucking google's servers. Niantic's servers are the same ones they use for Ingress, and Niantic has shown with Ingress that they are not good at making a game work.

I have a question that I still haven't got a definite answer on:

Do I catch a high CP Pokemon, completely power it up, then evolve it? Or do I catch a high CP pokemon, evolve it, and then power it up. I currently have a level 170 eevee (pic related) and a few others around that range. Not sure if I should power up or evolve first?

You didn't get a definitive answer because we don't know ourselves. Most people agree you evolve first because then you can see what moves it will have so you don't waste resources on it, but that has nothing to do with CP, there's still some things about it we have to figure out.

You get a nice any time you hit the middle of the green with a Pokeball.

Click the Pokemon on the list of 9 and the bar in the bottom right will be specifically for that Pokemon. It'll get less and less footsteps as you get closer. You're playing hot and cold with it.

Every footstep is about 50 meters or 50 feet or something dumb like that. That means the Graveler is about 150 feet away.

Hardcap gets higher and higher with your trainer level. If you happen to live on a spot with a bunch of pokemon areas and pokespots, that's about right for 2 days of grinding. Disregard the steps completely it's a shit feature. Doesn't matter if you sprint toward all 4 points of the compass it never gets closer and you will not catch it.

Just cover as much distance as possible while you play and hope you catch some rares. But the concept of hunting silhouettes you want just doesn't work.

Funny I made that original post and caught a Vulpix like 15 minutes later. Then a Pinsir, Seadra, Jigglypuff, Squirtle, Eevee, and Paras.

Honestly the way to get the most pokemon is driving around town at a low speed. If you're okay with the risk of mowing down 7 year olds crossing the street you'll be the Pokemon GO master in no time.
