I walked over to a school to knock out the red team and right before I got there, it was cleared out. I was looking around to see if someone else took it out but no one was around so I put in my Poliwhirl and continued on. It's still mine too and someone else put a pokemon in so I'm not crazy.

I just installed it, a screen with a gyarados appears and a loading screen, along with a pop-up that says "stay alert of your surroundings". Keeps crashing before the loading ends. Is it because my phone is shitty, is there something going on atm, do I need to turn on location first?

Probably a server lag issue. I've had the same thing happen to me in Ingress before, I think that portals/gyms don't always update if there isn't anyone near them.
