I don't remember it being kind of hated, but it was received less warmly than the first two. Looking back on them as an adult, movie 3 is the best by a hundred miles (and not only compared to the first two movies, but every subsequent one too), it just isn't as easily appreciated by kids as those two because it goes for something deeper and less flashy. I rewatched movie 2 as an adult after remembering loving it as a kid and it's actually really subpar and shallow, for instance.

The Diancie movie at least seems perfectly canon, what with Xerneas briefly showing up in the mist before appearing properly in the movie, the bunch of Carbink from the recent Goodra episode leaving through a passage to the Ore Country and what will most likely be acknowledged as a rematch between Ash and Ayaka in a few hours.

Sinnoh had episodes that seemed like filler only to show use something that will be somewhat relevant later, until near the tail end of the saga.

We don't talk about BW, which had an entire filler arc at the end of the saga for no reason and didn't have Ash win something to compensate like in Orange Islands, though I guess getting rid of Iris is a consolation.

XY's filler was evenly distributed, and many of those were dedicated to exploring Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie's characters, (showing Ash is not BW Ash and kicks so much ass, Serena's crush and her exploring something new as she lacked a dream, Clemont's promise with Ash, Bonnie being Bonnie.) Not until XY&Z did filler become a problem, as a bunch of it was shoved in the beginning of the season. However, once the Ash-Greninja and Alain started in earnest, filler became fewer, though they're still there. They honestly pretty much used up all Kalos mons that they could base a filler off.

I'm amazed at how far they've gone to keep Goodra's return hidden. No showcasing it in the previews or scans and just a summary saying Ash needs one more pokemon for his team to be complete.

BW is split into four series, for some reason, just like XY is split into XY and XY&Z. They're called "Best Wishes", "Best Wishes Season 2", "Best Wishes Season 2: Episode N" and "Best Wishes Season 2: Decolora Adventure".
Decolora Adventure is the final 20 episodes, and details Ash and friends' journey back to Kanto via ships that take them through the Decolora Islands, with them stopping by some islands and having some adventures here and there. A bunch of the earlier ones are pure filler, but later adventures start tying into shit that gets relevant later, like setting up Dent and Iris' departures and the group getting joined by a new character from Kalos that sets up Ash's journey there. It's not really a filler arc, it just feels less important at first.
