Something needs to be done about Hyper Beam, it was such an iconic energy attack and became a worse move each generation. Hopefully this empowered move stuff in SM will do something about it.

Supermoves should be customizable and you can teach your Pokemon any move whatsoever.
It can only be used in battle after the other 4 moves have been used.

Professor studies moves, implying there's a new mechanic related to them the same way sycamore studied megas, elm studied breeding, rowan studying new evolution methods, etc
New features section on website mentions moves more powerful than you've ever seen before while showing a glowing pikachu shooting some powerful looking electric beam from its mouth

It's not exactly a hard thing to deduce.

At this point in time it is just a conjecture based on some info posted on the official website, which teased the new features. One of those features is that the Alola region is home to moves stronger than you've ever seen before, alongside a picture of Pikachu performing a new attack with a somewhat stylish animation. Take that and add that Kukui's research is about moves, and the supposed 5th moveslot seen in the Treehouse gameplay and you have that the new feature will be something like super moves. Now it's a matter of time too see how they will actually be implemented in the game.

I agree, I love "power attacks" with a drawback like Hyper Beam, but HB and it's variations are just too weak right now.

That being said, I had a lot of fun using Hyper Beam Mega Gardevoir in VGC 2015, it got the KO on a lot of things that Hyper Voice couldn't.
