Double battle gyms like Tate and Liza's didn't become the standard despite Pokemon being balanced around doubles

They nerfed them sorta unnecessarily in Generation 2 and they never recovered.

The reason why Psychic types were so overpowered in Generation 1 is because the game was programmed and designed like shit so that Ghost types were actually bad against them and there were no offensive Bug moves to use against them.

When Gen 2 happened they fixed the Ghost oversight and gave Bug type some more tools which honestly should have been enough. But then they also introduced a type immune to Psychic solely to counter them and another type to resist them.

This left a horribly nerfed Psychic that everyone perceived as 'fixed' because at the very least it wasn't overpowered anymore, but now they just sort of don't do anything. They have two types that are essentially the same (Dark and Ghost) to counter them, their only use offensively is against Poison types and almost every Psychic type is the same Pokémon (special sweeper).

It feels like Fairy was honestly the final nail in the coffin that killed Psychic types. Right now they just feel redundant and need some sort of buff or at least gimmick (like Grass types being immune to powders) to make them useful again.

Can't wait for the next Psychic gym leader or Elite 4 member just to see /vp/ bitch about how "weak" they are.
