It really reminds me of when I first saw Heracross as a kid and got hyped as shit for Gen 2. Just a solid god damn pokemon all around.

From an attempted objective point of view, I think most of the Gen 7 designs have been totally fine, but none of them were my cup of tea until this thing showed up. It'll probably stay one of my favorites even after the full dex is shown.

Not too long ago I think an anon calc'd that it's HP was 92, assuming 0 IVs in the trailers. It also talks about it being fast, so its probably got decent speed, and im sure it has high SpAtk too.

So long as it either gets a key utility move (like Sticky Web), and/or at least one solid non-STAB coverage move, I bet it'll be anywhere from decent, to great in competitive.

Which is why I qualified my first sentence, the exact one you quoted, with "at least they haven't yet", and we've no reason to assume that's going to change. Also Intimidate is hella better than Levitate dude. Levitate is a fine ability mind you but Intimidate is pretty incredible. It's like a free burn for switching in. It cna have PASSABLE stats but as an early game mon it just can't have stats THAT high to make a presumably fast special attacker stand out, and ditto for the movepool though less due to being an early game mon and just in general. It'd have to get something crazy weird like Tail Glow which is unlikely. You can at best hope for something Scolipede stat wise if it shows up a little later, and Scolipede is backed by Speed Boost making it good, not just the raw stats and movepool or typing or anything.

Yeah, just about. In some contexts, Levitate could be better.

Reckless causes it to suicide way too quick in combination with it's weakness to Rocks, only decent speedy recovery and its natural favor of turning.

Intimidate is top tier in VGC, but middling in 1v1 formats, as it's timing is way more restricted, cant easily stack, and in Staraptor's case, Staraptor's frail so it wont be buying much by getting a -1. It's still a fine ability, but not top tier like it is in VGC.

Levitate is also a top tier ability in VGC, and allows free switch ins when predicted correctly. Ground is a common enough type for that to be relevant. If it synergizes with the pokemon that uses it well enough, it could also turn free switch in's to checks.
