This is true. I didn't try to get a shiny ho-oh from OR, but it took me a couple tries to catch it and it struggled to death more than once.

I highly recommend putting it to sleep as much as possible.

In other news, I wasn't so sure if I'd like my shiny weedle, but holy crap I love the shiny mega beedrill. I'm considering getting a shiny meowth as a final breeding project, partially because I hate myself but I also think it's funny.

some friend safaris seem to have higher shiny rates than others. i've found up to 3 shinies in 1 hour in someone's safari but gone 8 hours without a single shiny in someone else's. on a few occasions the very first pokemon i encountered in a new friend's safari was shiny. just the other day i got 2 shiny eevees within 15 minutes of each other. try gathering a bunch of safaris and testing out the various shiny odds; i don't use shinies competitively but when i need the rush from finding one i just go to a safari where i know it's easy to find a shiny.

I can re-explain how I do it, but admittedly it might not seem worth it or legitimate to most people.
There IS a way to transform the raw data from gen2 Pokémon to make it compatible with gen3 data structures and then transfer them up normally from there, but I haven't done it because shininess isn't even calculated in the same manner to begin with, so it wouldn't really be particularly useful to me.
