While that would definitely make the abilities better, the problem is these abilities are on starter Pokemon, aka pokemon new kids use to learn how types work. If rowlet absorbs grass damage, that could easily confuse young kids into thinking all grass types absorb all grass moves.

I cant help but feel they could of done something with this ability that could of made Magcargo much better. Considering only Magcargo and Camerupt get it, you wouldnt really need to worry about making it too broken.

Immunity to freeze is literally the most useless status ailment to be immune to.

For fucks sake. No one has mention the most useless ability of all, Light Metal. It halves the user's weight reducing damage from Grass Knot and Low kick, but the Pokemon who have this ability already resist Grass Knot and 2 of the 3 Pokemon who have this ability take neutral damage from Low Kick.

You have people mentioning blaze and pinch abilities, which are situational but can make or break a match sometimes. Remember petaya empoleon I think? Or was it subsalac? Blaze infernape. The boost makes a big difference. I even unironically use swarm choice band escavalier on my trick room team. Mega horn proceeds to at least 2hko pretty much everything.

Klutz is good for switcheroo shenanigans, and I'm pretty sure you can steal lefties and they'll work fine.

Ignoring shit like pickup and illuminate that are meant for outside battle, here are some
Actual bad abilities:
Truant
Defeatist
Light/Heavy Metal
Keen Eye (near useless as evasion upping is a more common strategy than accuracy lowering)
Normalize
Slow Start
Stall


That's literally it. Every other ability has some kind of use, though it may be situational, or you may never be aware of it, like a freeze being avoided due to magma armor, or crunch not lowering your defense thanks to big pecks.
And the rest can have some way to work into a strategy, like I mentioned with klutz, or hacking a beserk gene to later gens and using it with tangled feet.

Slaking is lazy and always loafing off, sure, so Truant makes sense... but what about Archeops makes you think he's a defeatist? It's pointless. It's like they felt the need to nerf him, even though he's not particularly powerful, just because they couldn't bear thinking that such a cool looking Pokémon wouldn't be total trash in battles.
