The nostalgia for old anime mostly comes from it all being hand-drawn. But you can make modern anime look a whole lot nicer if it has a big budget like XY.

While i'll admit digital is much more crisp, and frankly, colorful, it lacks in what traditional hand-drawn gave us, which was the feeling of being organic.

Hand-drawn animation with hand-painted scenery felt organic, comfy, part of it being it's imperfections. Digital animation is so perfect to a fault that it just feels manufactured.
