Ikarishipping was the DP version of Geekchic. Basically a ship invented by Pokeshippers to keep the current main girl away from Ash.

Paul and Dawn barely interact in DP, yet the Pokeshippers shipped them. Serena and Clemont barely interact in XY...yet the Pokeshippers ship them.

So I was rewatching some XY&Z fights because hype and I noticed that after using Water Shuriken in KYODAI MIZU SHURIKEN MODO the Water Shuriken tattoo reappears then fades when the shuriken finishes forming.

This is Tachiko Otsuki.

Sister of Ayaka Otsuki, Tachiko is a performer in the Kalos Tripokalon circuit with her partner, Furret. She can be very laid back, much to the chagrin of her companions.

She enjoys nothing more than kicking back on a Sunday afternoon and playing with Furret. To her, Tripokalons are something fun and are not supposed to be hard work. Because of this attitude she didn't get far and eventually returned home to Tama Hills.

Serena's love just keeps getting stronger and Ash is still feeling the same as the day he met her. That's not progression. The only thing Ash has progressed with is his team (mainly Greninja). By now he probably thinks more of Greninja than Serena. He even used Serena as a stepping stone to fix his bond with Greninja.

I'm starting to think these threads have never watched anything else outside of Pokemon and have never seen how actual love progression works. Ash is still dumb as a door about Serena's feelings and he's about to take on the league.

Also I'd like to say that Ash's relationship with Greninja feels rather forced and arbitrary. He didn't really bond with him anymore than his other mons, it was just suddenly stated that "their bond is super special" for plot convenience. A bad case of tell, not show.

Ash rescued Charmander, but then didn't train properly to keep up with him. Charizard outgrew him and Ash had to earn back his respect.
He saved Chimchar and had to deal with his pent up rage from a life of abuse, learning to channel it into victory, and it combined seamlessly with his ability.
Both of these really illustrate a relationship strengthened through conflict and hardship. I find it hard to believe he has a stronger bond with Greninja. It just feels artificial.

I suppose Sceptile is comparable in that they just got along naturally for the most part, but on the flipside Sceptile didn't get a special snowflake power.

Ash being strong is a natural progression from DP, though he could stand to be sillier.
Tripokalons are forced because they only exist for Serena to do something. They're not interesting, they don't tie into the main narrative at all, they don't flesh out her relationship with Ash, and it's still not clear why she arbitrarily decided to do this of all things and was of course the bestest ever at it. It feels completely artificial. Yes it's forced when the episodes just exist to give a character purpose, rather than the plot having purpose for them.

Tripokalons are essentially pokemon+trainer pageants. Serena is a fan of both fashion and showing off, however subtly. She also isn't the bestest ever at it, seeing how hard she lost and how a noted veteran stated that her performances, while cute and fun, were still extremely lacking. It may not have served a purpose for the main narrative, but it did for Serena's in that she gained more confidence and an actual goal to strive for. It also gives her something else to pursue besides Ash.

Brock's pursuits lead to great knowledge of Pokemon, and that knowledge directly ties into Ash's growth as a trainer. Clemont is similar except that he informs the group moreso than Ash, since Ash is already high level. His inventions at least advance the plot, sometimes.

Greninja's form being genetic makes it just as forced, if not more so. Just means that Ash won the lottery with a super special ubermensch mon. Pikachu's strength was enhanced against Brock. Infernape's Blaze is enhanced by its anger and life experiences. Charizard forced itself to evolve because it wanted to compete with the strongest mons. All of these entail power through struggle and force of will, not genetic predisposition. It cheapens the whole thing.

For a Anime commercial aimed at children, it's as good as you will get considering Ash's experience.

Brock's knowledge might had been relevant to Ash's development until mid-Johto, when you could still consider Ash as kind of a noob, but then again, his pursuit of being a breeder doesn't correlate with Ash's goal beyond that. Clemont's inventions, most of the time, are as relevant as the problem/character of the day in a given episode, except for notable exceptions like his synchro pulse meter and Clembot.

Pikachu's strength is the epitome of bullshit. Even if you consider his status as a glass cannon, the rat is the definition of "as strong as it needs to be". And Infernape is just a milder case of Greninja's thing: it's triggered by his past struggles/traumas, but at the end it's just an abnormally strong Blaze that is as genetic as Greninja's synchro. The differences at the end come to the trigger (bond vs anger), the power boost (Super Saiyan vs Kaio-Ken) and the kind of boost it is (super mode vs super ability).
