I legitimately wonder what role in game design the ledyba and caterpie contribute. Why did they do caterpie and not vivillon.

All of the Pokemon shown in XY demosntrations were obtainable in-game, same with ORAS

I think they do with such large local pokedexes. Kalos had plenty of bugs including Caterpie and Ledyba aswell

How much defense does Butterfree has if you would convert fur coat 85 to regular basestats? 110 or better?

Well, anything from Unova and Kalos is technically rare since they haven't been in many games. Ledyba also hasn't been very accessible in many regions, and psuedo legends are uncommon by default

Uninvested base 85 yields 206 Def at Lv 100. With Fur Coat that's effective 412 Def. To get to 412 Def naturally you'd need 185 base Def uninvested.

With max EVs and positive nature it becomes 295 * 2 = 590 Def, which would require even a Shuckle to have some investment on the Def stat.
