If the illustration didn't look like a literal fucking Blue Whale, which is a real-life mammal that only lives in water, then I would accept it as some sand-dwelling thing, but it isn't. Why not both? Have trainers that dress like this have a comedic quintuple boss battle, and have each trainer use only one pokemon, each pokemon being identical in appearance to the trainer. Or maybe a miniature version of the trainer, and a little more animal-looking. Then for winning the trainers give the player the common pre-evolution for all five of the power-ranger-poke-ball pokemon. Then, upon spending enough time with that pre-evolution in your party, it evolves into a fighting/something, dwarf version of the trainer. It would allow you to fight with a pokemon that had the same back-sprite as the player's character.

It's just a little unnerving to literally catch a human wearing clothes in a ball and have it on your team. Like they've skirted the edge of that, there are some Pokemon that look somewhat like humans, but these are JUST humans in clothes. The designs would have to be abstracted a lot more for it not to be weird.

Like, you could make them all dual bug types and theme the trainers after them or something, so long as they don't have tiny homunculus versions of themselves. That's just wrong.
