i think we'll get a similar amount to hoenn,since its a island tropical region and tropical regions have a lot of different and unique creatures in a tropical climate,but having ledyba,pichu and caterpie in route 1 means 2 things:
-72 or less new pokemon with +300 pokemon again
-130 new pokemon with 130/150 old pokemon like BW2 dex

its probably the first one,sadly

The islands are supposed to be teeming with life, so I think we can expect at least a 100 new pokes, unless they just bring back a bunch of old mons. I don't think they'll bring back too many though because Route 1 literally only had only 2 old mons among the 3 new mons.

It may just be my bias, but I really just want to move past Gen 6 and start fresh with a new Generation. After all, we're getting two well designed, IMO of course, box mascots and a seemingly interesting story with the whole guardian deity aspect. I guess I just don't want game freak to solely focus on SM's legendary Pokemon, then pull a 180 and turn the focus on something that originated 3 years ago

Mega evolution didn't replace new Pokémon. It's not even about being butthurt - the only region that introduced less was Johto, which gave us a full 28 more Pokémon and was basically just Kanto 2.0. And it let yoy go back to Kanto - there is no excuse for having this few Pokémon in a gen.

I can't say I'm too worried, since I personally really like everything shown so far, but my only real worry is not too many new Pokemon. Also, I highly doubt synchro will actually become a game mechanic. Yeah, it's in the anime, but it just seems like a really bland version of mega evolution, and I don't understand why they didn't just give Ash's Greninja a mega in the first place, so that way they could hype it up for Sun and Moon, or even a distribution event.

Yes, there's a lot of Pokemon already, but I don't get why that's such a bad thing. Most new Pokemon are confined to their region anyways, so I don't see why the new region, which is unique and far from the other regions, shouldn't have their lot.

They were literally just thrown in there with a few tiny bits of "lore" which was incredibly forgettable, gave it absolutely no build up to their fight, and put them in an boring HQ instead of, I don't know, maybe a comfy forest for Xerneas and some sky platform for Yveltal.
