I think it's a mix of Beauty & the Beast regarding Magearna x Volcanion and Pinocchio.

This movie is clearly another tribute to Europe, Japanese animation particularly loves the comfy ambientation. art and history from the old continent.

Italy, UK, Germany and France all had great fable and fairytale authors and artists and iconic scientists, Magerna creator is clearly a mix between Leonardo in the games and Pinocchio's father / creator from here. Also subtle Galileo and alchemy references in Pokemon Moon & Sun related stuff too.

I'm not sure the movie takes place in Alola either, there's quite a lot of space and a whole ocean dividing Kalos from Alola, unless it will be discovered that Alola is based on Hawaii but in the pokeworld it is placed between Southern Kalos and Italy, as some kind of exotic archipelago.

Diancie was a tributo to Kalos and perhaps Magearna is more another tribute to Italy with a dose of English steampunk mood.

I wonder what tale reference are the blonde, her brother and that one mischievous general or minister are, those are quite common characters and are present in many fables.

Anyway really like the movie preview so far, will most likely bring back some quality to the movie which was lost in the Gen 6 and Gen 5 themed ones, plus comfy towns and nature landscapes are always welcome.

magearna reminds me of an osamu tezuka character and i'm getting sort of a Metropolis 2001 vibe from the plot in a way. First time I've been looking forward to a pokemon movie in a while.

Not sure it's even an actual forme. During the trailer you can spot a (around 1:10) scene, possibly from a flashback, where its past original gold/red coloring is halfway faded into the coloring it is now in the present. This past appearance could very well just be a different look purely for the sake of cosmetics. Than again I could be wrong because it looks like it suddenly gains it back as shown around the end of the trailer that seems to be taking place in the present. Though its past coloring could have just been reapplied again via repair or paint earlier before said scene.

I think that those gold and red colors are not so much a new forme as they are simply just Magearna's original colors before she started rust and lose her sheen over time. She might either regain them after being repaired and a receiving a new paint job, or "magic" them back somehow via the power of friendship or the restoration of that "soul-heart" thingamajigger or some shit. Wouldn't be surprised if the original colors are used in-game as a sort of shiny or forme-based thing, though. I mean, I guess those alt colors would have to appear in the games somehow, and a forme/shiny would probably be the best way of doing that.

This trailer looks so promising, we didn't have a solid movie for a while, the last decent and good ones ended with the conclusion of Gen 4, then we got weak plots, awful digital art experimentations and movies that could have been just some anime special episodes instead of actual movies.

So far I like what we are going to have this time, this movie itself may be a good tribute to the well aknowledged author and artistic Japanese animation, maybe not like Miyazaki and same level directors but still good and absolutely comfy.
