Remakes also require far fewer production resources to make, since they recycle a lot of assets and don't require things like conceptualizing new Pokemon or region designs. They keep making them because the profit ratio is good, despite selling less overall.

Also, HGSS were notoriously underprinted because of the Pokewalker.

The previous games have been out for years.
Also on the review score. The longer a games been out the more reviews it gets effecting the overall score.

If you can show an overall sales number for period of time, say for example, total sales within a year period of release, then you would have something to compare.

selling remakes is actually more lucrative. it costs much less to produce because the devs are using a graphics engine that is already in place, and don't have to create new concepts or new pokemon, just recycle what's already there and reap up a larger profit margin even if sales are not quite up to snuff with mainline titles.

Do something different to actually attract more people. Pokemon is known for being the same thing over and over. But the issue seems to be that the game play is boring, repetitive and simplistic. Basically turn base sucks ass. Even South Park moved away from it.

Another reason is its 3DS exclusive while most games that sell large amounts are multiplat.

For one, DP still sold faster on average than BW. There also comes a time when games stop being made, right now XY is still in production and can be purchased on the eshop

it has more to do with DS/3DS sales than the Pokémon franchise itself.

the DS sold 150 million units, with 17 million DP sales, just above 10% of DS owners were playing Gen 4, give or take.

with 60 million 3DS sales, and around 15 million XY sales, that's a whopping 25% of 3DS owners playing Pokémon.

Pokémon's pretty safe in its position as the 2nd most profitable IP in Nintendo's grasp, only beat by Mario. So I'd peg the decline in Pokémon sales to the 3DS' limitations itself, rather than the game's content or interest.

There's plenty of new children who buy the current generation as their first games, and plenty of old pokemon fans who have just moved on from the whole thing. I know I left Pokémon during Mid-Gen 3, skipped 4 and 5, and came back for XY.

Pokémon isn't mean for "the same 15 million people" it's meant for little kids to pick up and play out the gate as well as the veteran fans who have been here for 10+ years.
