OK saw the e3 gameplay video stated that in the new region there are also pokemon from past gens, not just ones from the new gen. They were saying it like it was some benefit.

Can anyone on /vp/ tell me whether this is something that they enjoy about new games? Is this a common thought prevalent amongst fans or is this just Gamefreak being retarded?

It'd be fine if there were plenty of new Pokémon as well, but that wasn't the case with Kalos and it doesn't seem to be the case here.
For example, in Hoenn I'm pretty sure the first time you can see a non-Hoenn mon is a fisherman's Magikarp on Route 104.
It's the same in Sinnoh, where you only see Sinnoh Pokémon until the third town/city.
And of course we all know BW's situation, Johto is the only exception here, but for all intents and purposes it's a Kanto sequel.
Granted, we don't know the entire intro to SM yet, the gameplay we saw seemed to be after some events that happened in-game, but it's worrying.

Me and 2 of my friends always get these games and each pick one of the startes for each of us. I'm also getting moon because both of my friends picked sun.

Sun and undecided, I'll get Moon eventually but I always get one version when they release. As for the starter, I'm waiting for their final evolutions to be revealed first (final evo is the one you'll be stuck with for the longest so it's the one that matters most.)
