Skamory is gen 2. Appeared in that path below Blackthorn, but only in Silver. Maybe in Crystal, I dunno, but definitely not Gold.

None of you pay to the National pokédex numbers?
>>
>>26819473

Yep. Houndoom isn't until Kanto either, same for Larvitar and Sneasel.

Also, Heatran is gen 4.

>>26819485

I pay almost zero attention to pokedex numbers of pokemon. It's impossible to completely keep track of that shit when there's now 721 pokemon, not including the 7th gen.

That said, I at least know what generations I've encountered what pokemon in.
>>

yes
>>

With gen 3 being the first games I played, I thought skram and slugma were gen 3, must have missed the anime episodes with them. Also thought Chime was gen 4 just because I never saw it in the gen 3 games. I was also a stupid kid when it came to continuity.
>>
>>26819420
I knew it was gen II, but I always thought it was some sort of legendary back in the day. It featured in a lot of promos/tv commercials and TCG cards next to Ho-oh and Lugia

>>
The only Pokemon I got fucked on is I thought Kecleon was some super rare gen 2 mon. It was pushed with a lot of the Johto merch (as a Gen 3 promo), even showing up in the anime in Johto, and I didn't really connect the dots there. I don't think I've confused anything else.
>>
>Kangaskhan isn't gen VI
>>
I don't get Chimeco

>rare as fuck
>only found in one late game area
>far outclassed by other Psychic types by the time you can get it (if you wanted a Psychic type you would have Gardevoir/Alakazam/Medicham)
>piss poor stats
>piss poor movepool

If it wasn't for the anime it would be as forgotten as Mothim and Finneon
>>
>>26819461
Slugma would have fit perfectly in gen 3 because the whole land (magma/lava) and water theme.
>>
>>26819293
I shit you guys not, I found a shiny Shuppet before I found a fucking Chimecho when I went looking for one in Sapphire.

Chimecho was rarer than a fucking shiny.
>>
>>26820518
The fact that it's the last index numbered Pokemon in Gen 3 indicates that it was a late addition and could've been in Gen 4 instead as a 2 stage evo with Chingling.
>>
>>26820468
Kecleon was not only the first Gen III Pokemon revealed, it was also the first to have its cry programmed in the Gen III games
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Ruby_and_Sapphire_beta#Cries

>>26820694

>>
>>26820679
At least in original Gen 2

Jasmine: Lv 30 Magnemite, Lv 30 Magnetmite, Lv 35 Steelix

Pryce: Lv 27 Seel, Lv 29 Dewgong, Lv 31 Piloswine

In HGSS they upped Pryce's levels a bit (30, 32, 34 respectively).

If you ever play original G/S/C, do Pryce (and the Rocket stuff) before Jasmine. It fixes up the messy level curve a lot.
>>
>>26820718
but in gsc and hgss jasmine was never a problem
a couple of mudshots, a couple of surfs ez win
>>
>>26820717
Ya Koga is easier, especially since all his mons ever ever do is self destruct buy Fuchsia city is all the way down in the arse of Kanto and the two routes are littered with shit trainers that aren't even worth the EXP and to get to those routes, you did to do the game cornir and lavender town shit first. you can go to Saffron before you beat Erika as long as you give one of the check point guards a drink so I'd nearly always do Saffron before
Also Koga was actually harder than Sabrina in Yellow, I only remembered

Sometimes I think I'm the only one on this board that actually likes pokemon enough to pay attention to the little details.

I know every pokemon of a generation as soon as they come out, been that way since I was a kid. Between experiencing all the media except the shitty anime , its super obvious to me what is what. I was fuckin' around with Skarmory in the TCG, Stadium 2, and Silver version. Same with pretty much every pokemon.

So no, I never thought Skarmory was Gen 3. Nor have I mistaken any other pokemon.
>>
I didn't even know gen 2 existed for the longest time. With the games I went straight from Red and Blue to Sapphire, and I guess I just thought the anime was different.
>>
>>26821087
Same. I don't think I ever encountered it in GS. The complains about it being useless made more sense since it has been so long from it's debut and it still doesn't get an upgrade.

>>
>>26819293
I've always thought that chinchou/lanturn were introduced in hoenn.
>>
The Orange Islands anime used to have me thinking Marill was a Gen I pokemon.
>>
>>26821116
I have always known skarmory was gen 2, since I ran into it enough times on that longass route from the last town to like... the first route? I forgot the exact details. Also Chimecho, I randomly encountered one on my first ever Emerald run, I never plaued Ruby or Sapphire. I thought it was rare at the time for whatever reason, so I caught it.

Idk how anyone gets them mixed? It's not something I went out of my way to learn but I know which game every single pokemon belongs to? I suppose I grew up with every gen though.

I never played GSC growing up so I didn't know the Jhoto dex really well. When I got Ruby I also got a big poster of the Hoenn dex, so I thought most of the mons that weren't gen 1 must be gen 3 like Slugma, Houndor, and Corsola. Ten year old me even thought Magcargo evolved into Torkoal which while I thought was weird didn't seem too much of a stretch since they were both fire types with rock-like shells.
Oddly enough I knew Skarmory was gen 2 even back then.
Thing is I learned my mistake real quick. I don't know how all these other people got it wrong for so long.

The thing about Gen 2 Pokemon, is that a good amount weren't able to be caught until once you got to Kanto.

That is specifically why Slugma and Skarmory are thought of as Gen 3.

Slugma
>Only found on three routes in Kanto
>One is the one connecting Celadon to Cycling Road, and only 5% (and only during the day in Crystal)
>One is Cycling Road, though this is at least 35% chance (but are you really looking for Pokemon on Cycling Road?
>The last is right after Cycling Road, and is again only 5%

Skarmory
>Only shows up on Route 45, which is between Blackthorn and Dark Cave (Why the fuck are you even going this way? Just fly back to New Bark after Clair)
>Only 5%

Meanwhile, both of them are quite common on routes that aren't optional in RSE.

I can sort of see what Game Freak was doing there. They were meant to be "newly-discovered" species, so naturally a lot of Gen 2 mons were really, really rare.

The problem is, that's just not fun. I buy Pokemon games for new mons, not for the same 8 badges and evil team over and over again.

And then Gen 3 swung too far in the opposite direction, with practically no old mons at all.

Glad they learned their lesson by Gen 4.

>Rotom isn't a legendary
Took me way too long to realize. Discovered he could breed by accident.

Introducing Pokemon for your new region, should include PUTTING THEM IN THAT REGION.

It's the music that plays when you fight Rotom's fault

Who's idea was this?

The one from DPPt uses the legendary battle music for its encounter.

Yeah I know who it is but that scene isn't from the show, I don't believe. It's Ayato, aka Better Shinji

Actually that's DP because Fantina is the 3rd gym in that game

Yes I actually do have slight autism

That wasn't how new Pokemon worked back then. They were supposed to be newly-discovered, never-before-seen species, not that they were found everywhere in the region right next door.

All I had was my cousin's old Genesis until I was seven so I started with Gen 3

That happened to me when I was looking for a Chimecho in Emerald to complete my dex in SoulSilver.

See this is similar to me. Pokemon wasn't big at my school. I remember playing Yellow in 2nd grade there but with no one else outside my close group of friends.

My sister (6 years older than me) and I had Red and Yellow and watched the anime religiously.

Both of us stopped caring about Pokemon during all of Johto. Neither of us even heard of it. We didn't have a computer at home, so googling what we missed was impossible.

Both of us got some gen 3 games. (I got Ruby and LG and she got Emerald and FR) so Johto pretty much went unnoticed for awhile.

When it came to technology, I just got my older brother's hand-me-downs.
Must be nice living in a rich family, no normal parents would willingly buy their 2-3 year old son a fucking gameboy.

ftfy, the point he was trying to make was that the order of the badges doesn't change from DP to Pt, so the third badge is in the fifth slot

Until recently, I have always read it's name as "SkarmoNy"... Took me 15 years to realize I was saying/reading its name incorrectly.
