I really want a little Ice type snowshoe hare Pokémon, that evolves into a Jackalope with icicle-antlers.

We've got Hopkinsville Goblin for Sableye though.
>>

There's literally a Zapdos smack dab in the middle there.

Also, why the fuck didn't anyone tell me there was a frogman where I live?
>>
>>26812140
Abomasnow is a yeti, not Bigfoot. Dunsparce is entirely Japanese.

>>26812154
Personally I've never believed that Zapdos and Moltres were based on the thunderbird or phoenix in the slightest. They're just birds that wield different elements, along with Articuno.
>>
>>26812179
Abomasnow is the Abominable Snowman.

>unreasonable fears

Nah, not always. They're usually with perfect reason, triggered by a traumatic event or raw human instinct, in most cases.

My buddy has a fear of moths- mottephobia- which spawned from a particularly bad experience with a whole fuckton of them at once at a young age, for example.

As well, the fears of rodents, spiders, and snakes, for example, are all theorized to stem from a primal association of these things with disease and death and death, respectively. (It's usually stuff our ancient ancestors associated with death or illness.)

The only "unreasonable" fears are the ones that hardly make a lick of justifiable sense, like a fear of hats or some shit.

Maybe that guy has severe moth trauma, who knows.

>>26828341
It's very definitely not. Fuck that thing, that thing just screams "death".

Bitch you fucking what? I'm a fucking West Canadian and I know that Mothman is WV's cryptid more than it is NC's

NC has had sightings, yeah, but it's WV's cryptid, as it's blamed for the 1966 collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant, WV following a night filled with sightings of the creature across Point Pleasant

>>26831499
>Zapdos is the Thunderbird
Well, i think it's more the mythical thunderbird of native americans, than the crypozoological one of modern america
>Ho-oh is a phoenix, if you still consider the phoenix a cryptid (I don't)
nope, also a myth, there aren't anyone that still claim to see them
>Could Meganium be inspired at all by Mokele-Mbembe? I mean, it's a sauropod, it has three claws, the Grass typing fits a jungle theme... it's a fair suggestion if we're suggesting Lapras is Nessie, imo.
I dunno, Mokele is a lot less famous than Nessie, and pretty much all sauropods ate a lot of plants, so it's easy to link them to grass types, besides, Mokele is said to have spikes on its back, and known to swim in water, whereas Meganium has pretty much no link with water at all
And sure, Lapras could be a regular plesiosaur, but to my knowledge, few of them have the upward pointing neck that both Lapras and Nessie seem to have
>>
>>26813219
IT'S SO CUTE
>saved
>>
>>26831548
The native american thunderbird is supposed to look more like a huge black/gray condor though.

Fearow/Mandibuzz resemble it more than Zapdos does.
>>
>>26831654
Depends a lot of who you're asking. Some traditions claim it's golden, others say it's this weird, barely birdlike creature with a huge beak directly attached to the torso, with no head.
>>
>>26813873
So just like pretty much all cryptids, then?
>>
Tessie what a fucking joke its literally me mums nessie (loch ness monster) with a letter changed
>>
>>26831732
Lake monsters are among the lamest and most boring cryptids in general. Pretty much every country has at least one, too (got a fjord allegedly inhabited by fjord serpents up here).
>>
>>26831796
Ford snake what a fucking joke its literally me mums nessie (loch ness monster) with a ford focus
>>
>>26831832
Fords arw different. Also, the legend goes that the first serpent in this fjord was so long that it put its head on one side of the fjord and the tip of its tail on the other, completely blocking ships from entering or leaving. It then laid there like a lazy fatass, hypnotizing people and cattle to walk into its mouth. Finally, this minor viking king puts scythes on the bottom of a longboat, gets a crew of slaves and runs over the serpent, chopping it up. And that's why shore is red like the serpent's blood, and the other is black like its venom.

There were sightings up to the early 20th century, but those serpents were much smaller. There's also been a bunch of bones that people claimed came from the serpent, but those were almost certainly whale bones.
>>
>>26812074
That "skinwalker" was literally a screenshot from the old horror movie Extro. It was the laziest of all hoaxes, and was of course debunked within minutes.
>>
>>26831654
there are some natives that say kolibris are the offspring of thunderbirds
and Zapdos's beak looks like that of a kolibri, and the wings could look like a kolibri's in motion too
>>
>>26831732
Well "Nessie" is just the closest individual name to "Loch Ness", so they have the same reason behind that
>>
>>26831953

Eh, I thought it was okay. Had a few decent scenes (the woman giving birth to a fully grown adult man is disturbing as fuck) and some just goofy ones (aliens apparently have the power to turn action figures into full sized soldiers). I've seen worse British alien movies.
>>
>>26832030
Lots of birds have long beaks. Storks, herons etc.
>>
>>26832030
If they wanted it to resemble a thunderbird of native American lore, they would have given it the beak of an eagle or something, rather than going "guys, I read this thing that indirectly connects kolibris with thunderbirds. We gotta model our thunderbird after the kolibris now, it's the only thing that makes sense".

I'm pretty sure that's bullshit. Arachnophobia is only particularly common is western countries where spiders are generally harmless. We fear them because we are constantly told through media that they are something to be feared. Arachnophobia is rare in native populations that lack media, even in countries where spiders are actually dangerous. The same can probably said about the rest.

I thought media influence sort of went without saying. Look at how many people developed a fear of sharks after JAWS, for example.

Has a cryptid ever been proven to be real in recent history? I'm sure it happened a lot in the past, when science was more limited and people were still exploring a lot of new places, but now, discoveries of new species and things like that seem to just come out of nowhere instead of being confirmed after lots of brief sightings and rumors and stuff.

"The Devil Bird, or Ulama, is a frightening horned bird of Sri Lankan folklore. This elusive creature is rarely seen, but is often heard in the form of its infamous, blood-curdling screams. Its cries are said to resemble a wailing woman and are perceived by locals as an omen of death. For centuries, the nocturnal cries of the Devil Bird were the only evidence of its existence; Western science wrote if off as mere superstition. Then, in 2001, the Devil Bird was identified as a new species of owl, the spot-bellied eagle owl (bubo nipalensis). The largest of all Sri Lankan owls, the bubo nipalensis matches the description of the Ulama perfectly, down to its characteristic screech and tufted “horns”. Although some debate still remains as to the true identity of the Devil-Bird, the spot-bellied eagle owl stands as the most compelling source of inspiration for this mysterious creature."

The Hoan Kiem Turtle was an important figure of Vietnamese Mythology, however scientists did not actually believe the turtle existed until on March 24, 1998, when a team of scientists video taped the creature, and later caught several live samples. This shocked the entire world, because an animal that was thought to have never existed and was considered a cryptid was proven real. This shows that although Cryptids might seem unrealistic, the turtle was described to have a walrus like head and pig nose, there still is a fairly decent chance that they exist in the remote regions of the world.

That's because if it were a real creature, it would be properly documented. New species are discovered constantly, the scientific community does just disbelieve new creatures for no reason. When actual new species are discovered, and they are real creatures, the discovery is simple to confirm. When its a fake "sighting" there is no real proof, so the "sightings" continue for awhile.

It's a collection of cards sent out to members of a club by mail around 1995-2005 somewhere
It's kalled Monsterklubben or Monsterkort, and originally swedish but my version is norwegian

It's hard to come by these days, but you can find most of them in different book publications by Gerrie McCall or Chris McNab in english
It holds monsters from mythical, cryptozoological, folklore, or modern tales and stories

You can also find some tiny cards, same size as Pokemon Cards, or twice the size released under the name "Weird'n'wild creatures", but they only have a fraction of the information

Anything you might want to see if i have in my collection?
