In what way? You could play the games in any order and have the story make sense and have a certain amount of progress carry over, and you could still continue to link the games to progress (master sword etc.)

Yet the overworlds, dungeons and bosses were almost all unique.

Makes perfect sense to say it's more compatible and less similar.

You're right, but Gamefreak isn't trying to create distinctly unique games, so your point is moot.

You also overlook that the development of the Oracle series cannibalized its third "courage" entry. This was partly because Capcom's Flagship started with story concepts and mythos, and then expanded to gameplay.

The result was devs constantly resizing the maps to better fit the screen, because they had all these ambitious concepts to fit into the world.

Pokemon releases almost yearly with a break ever once in a while, they don't have the time to make two versions literally two completely different games, it's just to promote trading.

Their stories cross paths, both in how they begin and how they end. They represent divergent paths.

You trade rings from one game to the other, which unlock new abilities and buildings in the game. When you complete the story on one cart, you can play a second quest by linking up - this quest is the only way to face Ganon and Twinrova, and see the proper ending.

The 'standalone' ending only goes as far as you defeating Onox or Veran.

The fact that the games were designed from the ground up to be continued (same character, proper linking and sharing, etc.) B/W doesn't let you bring your character to B2/W2, it doesn't let you upgrade items (or vice versa), and the story can only be olayed in one order. There is also no additional unlocked content for owning and playing both.

It quite literally is more compatible in every way.
