I pick Snivy and had a blast playing through Pokemon White. During one playthrough I picked Snivy and it was shiny with decent stats. It was my first shiny ever on top of that so Serperior for me was never a disappointment and is one of my favorite grass pokemon.

Stat boosting is fine in-game when it's a doubler like Swords Dance. It isn't worth the time pumping with Coil in game and it's sad that that it basically has to do that.

Actually, no. The movepool of Gen V's bugs and flying have early STABs as opposed to that of Johto's--and a lot of early routes are littered with such types (and you get darumaka in the desert), so no.

I managed to finish GSC several times with Meganium but Serperior in game is so damn awful you have to always go for Glare, Coil a number of times even for wild encounters. Pathetic.

It would actually probably be my favourite starter, Sceptile. Gets a bunch of great coverage moves but they're physical and Sceptile's specially offensive. Gets a badass looking mega evolution but its ability is shit. So much wasted potential, I'm pretty heartbroken.

Like, look at Cloyster. Cloyster is a physically defensive juggernaut that changes dramatically from a defensive wall to offensive force via the use of shell smash. In the anime, it sheds its entire shell which is larger than its actual body and dramatically changes visually too.

Samurott doesn't have that quality to it. It's already offensively oriented, its shells are only a minor part of its design, its shells are weapons not just armour. Shell smash is more than just "it has a shell".
