On the one hand, a region consisting of more new mons than old would be preferable for diversity and new options for play.

On the other, there's only so many caterpie/weedle clones that we really need. Bug types are usually(though not always) the low level pokemon you find early game that evolve fast then become obsolete later game but were helpful in the early game, so reusing them is better than making new weak bug types to take their place.

Each post gen 5 is GOING to have old 'mons taking up some of the space in the "Regional" dex. And for good reason.

We have 721 pokemon right now. Lets just say we only get 79 to even it out (we'd be lucky to get 100 by this point)

Those 79 new 'mons are only going to make up 10% of the total Pokemon population. 10 fucking percent.

The whole fucking reason we see so many older 'mons is literally because if we only added those 79 'mons, we'd be stuck in a lackluster region, filled with NOTHING but a small handful of pokemon.

It would be like playing gen 1 all over again, except with only HALF as many pokemon.

On the other hand, we're rapidly approaching 900 pokemon, each with up to two of 18 types each, with a total of roughly 342 possible type combinations, all with different weakness/resistance matchups. Even good long-time players sometimes get shit mixed up.
